PRESENTATION OF THE CONFERENCE
Dear colleague,
The organising committee and myself are very pleased to invite you to
the upcoming International Meeting on Osteogenesis Imperfecta which will
be held this year in the Conference Centre of the Imperial Palace in Annecy,
France, from Sunday September 1 in the morning until Tuesday September
3 after lunch. A meeting for patients and families will be held from Friday
August 30 to Sunday September 1.
Annecy is a lovely medieval city in the lower French Alps, located between
Lyon (140 km) and Geneva (50 km) and overlooking the lake of Annecy, considered
as the nicest lake in France. As you will see in this brochure, communications
are easy, either by plane to the airports of Geneva or of Lyon, by train
with direct TGV from Paris, or by car.
In close collaboration with the scientific committee, we have set up
a program that in our opinion will address the major current issues related
to OI research and treatment. In line with what was done in previous conferences,
it is our objective to make this meeting as interactive as possible. Besides
formal presentations from invited speakers, short oral presentations will
be selected from the submitted abstracts. In addition, two round tables
will be organised where, after an introduction by two leaders of the field,
results and protocols from the various groups performing either treatment
with bisphophonates or molecular diagnosis will be confronted. It is hoped
that some form of consensus will emerge on these issues that are critical
for patient care.
Exchanges of information between the scientific meeting and the patient
meeting will be organised on Sunday September 1st, at the end of the morning
session. In addition, all participants are warmly encouraged to join the
patients on the evening of Saturday September 31st for a memorable banquet
on board the ship Libellule that will tour the lake of Annecy.
Although the meeting will officially end at lunch time on Tuesday September
3, there will be a possibility for speciality groups wanting to organise
a round table discussion to make use of meeting rooms on Tuesday afternoon.
We hope to see you in Annecy for a friendly and fruitful meeting that
will improve not only our research but foremost our care of OI patients.
